Kings Ash Academy

Formerly known as Foxhole Infants and Primary School, over two sites in Paignton, Kings Ash Academy school opened in May 2009. Architects Kensington Taylor designed the £7.8 million project.

Our original brief was to apply our established colour theory process to the generation of a finishes pallet and interior scheme. Working with the school through workshops, involving both teachers and pupils, we devised a concept that celebrated the schools location and environment.

Colour palettes were developed for each key stage based on a local environmental theme. Foundation Key Stage – the sea. Key Stage 1 – the beach. Lower Key Stage 2 – the countryside. Upper Key Stage 2 – the sky.

The themes then became the basis for signage and artwork throughout the school. The colours and images providing an identity at year group and class level, even for children with reading difficulties.
