The Barnstaple branch of Pizza Express is located in the 17th century former Three Tunns Inn. The brand concept was to work with the designated bright and contemporary colour scheme and contrast this within a local context.
The building has a very tudor character that needed a bold design response. We added to this the work of Dartmoor photographer Chris Chapman, with his unique take on the rural life of farmers and producers. The images promote the Pizza Express brand value of using and promoting authentic food, but put them in a local Devonian environment.

Grade II Listed Building
The Grade II listed building which now houses the Pizza Express was throughly renovated by 1946, with the timber-framed front, natural slate roof all upgraded with the courtyard filled in.
It was a fantastic and enjoyably challenging building to design an interior scheme for. The building, which features 3 storeys, windows glazed with leaded panels, is a mixture of the original and the 1946 renovation.
Despite the age and interior of the building, the design and refurbishment process was a smooth one. We delivered a strong and bright restaurant space and placed emphasis on rural life through the use of local Devon photography.
