We designed and installed a complete refurbishment of the existing Cockington Tea Rooms with the aim of increasing footfall, repositioning the offer to increase spend per head and suitability as a premium function venue.
The key elements of the design such as a new purpose built servery counter has vastly improved the presentation of the food, retail offer and staff operations. Chilled display, two tills and a barista coffee machine were placed to ensure efficient use of space and maximum customer facing opportunities. This brought a lot of the food and drink prep out of the back kitchen to the front of house area so that the staff are able to interact with customers more.
Being a grade 2* listed building careful consideration was given so as to enhance the history and character of the building such as the original carved timber fireplace surround, the wooden wall panelling and traditional radiators. Carefully placed lighting was designed to add interest and create ambience. Furniture created a feature with the central table and brightly coloured chairs, whilst also creating cosy spaces of wing back chairs and low tables. Printed wall graphics on acoustics panels improved the acoustics of the space and also paid homage to the theme of the cafe with Agatha Christie book titles.
The stunning custom made central table and high window bench where crafted using locally sourced timber, the digital display allow the menu and special offers to be easily visible to customers and the retail display offer souvenirs and locally made items such as jam made in the cafe. The finished result is a relaxed space with an interesting vibe to welcome customers, attracting tourist trade and local custom ahead all year round for years to come.
